Hey Bro The Unbreakable Bond
The Unbreakable Bond
Vijay was reading the newspaper when his neighbor arrived. The neighbor immediately announced, "I have some good news!"
"What is it?" Vijay asked.
The neighbor lowered his voice but spoke with a mysterious air. "Your brother is selling his field."
Vijay frowned. "Why? What kind of trouble has he gotten into?"
The neighbor took the newspaper from Vijay’s hand and explained, "When your sister-in-law fell ill, your brother mortgaged the field to the moneylender and borrowed two lakh rupees. With interest, that amount has now swelled to four lakh. The moneylender has issued a final warning. He has no choice but to sell the field."
Inside, Vijay’s wife was listening to the entire conversation. She came outside and declared, "We are still alive. We won't let that happen." She then went back inside, retrieved four lakh rupees, and placed them in front of Vijay.
"My father set up an FD (Fixed Deposit) in my name—these are those savings," she said. "Go and save the family's honor. Money is not bigger than your brother."
Vijay hesitated. "But why should I go? Brother doesn't even talk to me. And why are you making this sacrifice? Let the field be sold, if it has to be. What does it matter to us?"
His wife shoved the neighbor away and said, "Get out of here, you busybody! You're the one who sowed the seeds of enmity between the two brothers, aren't you?"
The neighbor tucked his tail and ran off.
Vijay’s wife looked her husband in the eye and said, "I come from a respectable family. My father taught me that when the family's honor is at stake, you must forget all disagreements and stand united. You will never be alone in life."
She then placed the money in her husband's hand, took his arm, and led him to his elder brother’s house.
They saw the elder brother sitting on a cot in the courtyard, holding his head in distress. The younger brother silently placed all the money in his brother's lap.
"You are going through such a huge problem, Brother," the younger brother said. "Why didn't you call me even once?"
The elder brother looked at the money and asked, "Where did you get all this money?"
The younger brother gestured toward his wife. "Your daughter-in-law gave it. Her father set up a Fixed Deposit in her name at the time of our wedding."
The elder brother immediately clasped his hands together in front of his sister-in-law. "Daughter," he said, "I won't be able to repay such a large amount."
Hidden behind her veil, she replied, "I don't need it, Brother. Please use it to redeem the mortgaged field. Money is not bigger than the family's honor."
Tears welled up in the elder brother's eyes. "A courageous and noble woman like you is rarely born in every house," he said. "I humbly bow down and salute your family."
After this, the elder brother repaid the moneylender's debt, and the two brothers were reunited.
The Moral of the Story
The brother who laughs at his brother's disgrace is the greatest traitor to the family.
The woman who steps forward to save the honor of her in-laws is the most cultured and virtuous woman.
Therefore, do not wait for your brother to fall. Extend your strong arms to save a falling brother. If a brother falls, the family lineage itself will fall, and then you, too, will be known as belonging to a fallen family.
